If Strings Could Talk…

…they’d probably say, “…change me, I’m tired, and this guy never stops plucking around!”

I admit it, I’ve been strumming, picking, or sliding around on some kind of string for a long time. Whether it’s rock (gotta love the 80’s, right!), or instrumentals, session work, club dates, country bars or lounge gigs, well, to paraphrase a line from the movie ‘Melvin & Howard’ , “…but Harold, I just love to play music!” Turns out, the interwebs is where you go to talk about all that stuff. If so, you’re in the right place, so surf along with me….

The songs I wrote for the Rocks will always be some of the best work of my life. Having the vision, the partner, the team, and most importantly, the VOICE, allowed me the freedom to find something I didn’t know I had. The fact that our songs are still appearing in shows like Young Sheldon, The Drew Carey Show, We Were Liars, and more makes me think those songs will live on for a long time.

For my second solo album, I got a chance to work again with Keith Allen, a true innovator and one of the great unsung heroes of guitar. Keith was able to help shape my vaguest notions into just the right parts, and together we came up with a record that was even better than the first.

My first solo album, which came about by happy confluence, opened up a new sonic vista, freed from thinking about lyrics to focus more on melody, texture, and production. Backed by a really solid band and the help of co-producer Peter Elman, I think it turned out great.

Sometimes songs have to be what they want to be, and a good old truck driving song won’t be denied. So I hired some hot shots in Nashville for the track, and they did a fantastic job. Let me know if you agree.
